Portrait of Franklin

Portrait of Franklin -
This is a painting I did of my son Franklin when he was only four and a half years. is in oil, 6 x 8 inches.

I do not remember how I got him to hold still, but it is certainly painted from life.

This is a big ear level. I was using bristle brushes for most of the paint. The ear is shown in three passes / three values. There is first a general tone of the skin cleaned throughout the area, and a darker tone for the shadows inside the ear, and finally a lighter tone for aircraft catch the light.

A key painting of a figure or a portrait is to think of these plans in groups. When I have a brush mixture to a given plane, I look for the related aircraft and I try to set before seeking new plans and create new blends.
