well. I thought it a good time to talk about five seemingly random things (for lack of a better word) that all writers should have. Because why not?
- Bookshelves. E-shelves are perfectly acceptable in this category, but the point is, we love our writers books. And we should! Reading is not only for fun, it is how we learn and continue with what is on the market, and as a nice bonus, we end up with some very nice library at the end of it. Assuming that you collect as I do.
Anyway. Books are the best friend of a writer, and so are the shelves that hold them. - Scrivener. To be fair, there is no perfect program that works for everyone, but I think every writer must at least try Scrivener. There is a free trial online and plenty of tutorials and honestly I was a word-lover die-hard until I meet Scrivener. Now I can not imagine writing another novel without it. .
- Criticism partners Readers / beta I've said and I'll probably say it again: the partners critics and beta readers worth their weight in gold. Hell, they are worth their weight in diamonds. I have already written about why they are so important here, but the short version is this: the most effective way I know to improve your manuscript and your job is to exchange manuscripts of other writers of your level to criticism. Do not skip this step. Do not.
- Patience. The writers need a bucketload of patience, patience with others, patience with the process and patience with themselves. Publishing, especially traditional publishing, is a slow process. And before that, you need to give yourself plenty of time to develop your craft, and especially remember time is on your side.
- A support system. Whether the family members, friends or social media friends, a support system is vital for writers. writing itself tends to force us to spend time alone, and authors often deal with big ups and downs throughout the trip. Having a support system to cheer you up when you feel down and celebrate with you when you have good news is essential to the life of the writer emotionally healthy and happy.
