Sketches for "Digging Leviathan"

Sketches for "Digging Leviathan" - Here are some initial concept sketches for the cover of a science fiction novel in 1984 called Digging Leviathan by James Blaylock.

The sketches are drawn in pen and marker. I wanted to stay loose, leaving the ideas occur at each iteration, such as multiple takes of a musician in a recording studio.

In the story, the hero is a machine that can dig in modern Los Angeles in search of Pellucidar.

Blaylock is widely regarded as one of the initiators of the steampunk movement. I loved the way he introduced fantastic elements in the banal reality of the modern world.
