is shows the giant mosasaure Tylosaurus entering a plesiosaur called Dolichorhynchops in violation of attack from the bottom, similar to how killer whales catch seals. A specimen Tylosaurus was actually found with the skeleton of a "Dolly" inside.
Some of you in Illustration Master Class in Amherst last summer looked me draw and paint the finished image. Instructors in this workshop actually brought their jobs (I sort of brought my whole studio) for the students to see the process. The paintings and Scott Fischer Greg Manchess are pinned in the background.
You can see why I like the traditional scrap file for reference picture. There are a bunch of pictures of humpback whales breach spread around the painting to the final oil on the drawing board.
