Lay Figure artist

Lay Figure artist -

There's something sweet and vulnerable about the secular figure of this artist from France circa 1860-1880

There is life size, wood and metal, with a painted paper mache head. Note that the curvature of the femurs, articulated fingers and forearm pronation, all with adjustable pretensioners in the joints. I do not know why the chest seems inadequate.

In order to fulfill its function as a clothing model for painters, I am assuming that the muscles have been inflated chiffon and cotton batting.
