Death of Print?

Death of Print? - This month our Smithsonian magazine came wrapped in a paper sleeve that says "Go Green."

The copy of marketing promises that any subscriber ready. quit get the magazine and instead move to a digital version will receive TWO FREE ISSUES

editors came up with new reasons to empty the option of paper:
1. There are two issues of free printing.
2. Faster delivery than the printed version.
3. Download anytime.
4. Less clutter of paper. (Have they seen my coffee table?)
5. Adjustable font size for easier reading.
6. Advanced search capabilities.
7. Easy Access to Web goodies.
8. Easy to search, share, and save (sounds like No. 6 again).
9. Help the environment.

I sympathize with the venerable Smithsonian, one of the best magazines out there. True, they are facing the same financial crisis every magazine covers :. Decline in advertising, the decline in subscribers, and increased printing and distribution

But it makes me wonder. Smithsonian is the special offer digital printing we will see repeated in other magazines? Is it just a single movement to siphon the friendly screen subscribers, or part of a larger strategy to eliminate the printed entirely? (Their FAQs do not say). Do these new incentives make you want to move away from paper?
