every once in a while I come across a book I can not help but rave about and recommend to anyone who will listen. The Emotion Thesaurus by Angela Ackerman and Becca Puglisi (which also manages the ever Blog -helpful La Muse library ) is one of those books.

Before I rave about his genius, here Goodreads Abstract:
"One of the biggest problem areas for writers is transmitting emotions is a character the reader a unique convincingly. This book comes to the rescue by highlighting 75 emotions and the list of body language cues, thoughts and possible visceral responses for each.
Due to its list format easy to navigate, readers can learn clues of characters that vary in intensity to match any moment of emotion. The Emotion Thesaurus also addresses common writing problems related to emotions and provides methods to overcome them.
This writing tool encourages authors to show, not tell the excitement and creative thinking resource for any project of fiction. "
I tweeted some time The emotion Thesaurus is perpetually open my Nook app while revising, and I exaggerating. Every time I come a time when I struggle to describe an emotion, or I receive a note CP requesting more emotion of a character, I open The emotion Thesaurus .

This is not a book that you read from cover to cover necessarily ( although you are more than welcome to), it is a resource that you open trying to describe a particular emotions (or more). what I like, it is not only lists the body language cues, thoughts and physical reactions, but it also lists the emotion contained clues (which I use all the time ). As a bonus, he wrote advice at the end of each chapter.

To top it all, other than Kristen Lamb recently recommended The Emotion Thesaurus in The Huffington Post (under 4) as well as dozens of other writers through the web. And nearly 500 comments on Goodreads, it has an average and with good reason of 4.57 stars.

I honestly can not recommend this book enough for writers of all stages. It will forever change the way you think and write the emotion or at least it did for me.

What resources do you use to help write the emotion?
