Gouache Head Demo Six Acts

Gouache Head Demo Six Acts - Yesterday at a cafe in college, I did a little demo of gouache on Facebook Live.

If you do not do Facebook or missed the live stream, here the archived video. The demo is divided into six chapters because the flow maintained a freeze for any reason.

You can skip to the episodes 4, 5 and 6 if you want to get to the main part of the painting.

Part 1 Intro-Sketchbook walkthrough

Part 2 -Drawing starts very late

Part 3 -Pencil drawing and painting background

Part 4 paint shadows, cutting edges, and the definition of basic shapes.

Part 5-halftones lighter

Part 6 -Dark accents, refining contours, edges lose

the point of this study was to present grisailles a good exercise for those of you who are getting to know gouache or who are just getting into the paint. You can do most of your drawing with a brush, and here the focus is on value rather than worrying about the color.

The head is one I carved based on George Bridgman from the analysis of the head, and is intended to show simplified plans of the head, keeping the skull to mind below but ignoring the surface characteristics.

This approach "grand plan" to the head also matches what neuropsychologists call forms "low spatial frequency" of large-face , shapes, as opposed to network fuzzy little lines that beginners usually attract artists first. These forms of low spatial frequencies are perceived peripherally, and play an important role in face recognition and perception of emotion.
