Construction

The good news is that this costume is a wonderful model "I need it now!" Edwardian. It is designed to simulate dresses of the time, and I think that he does it very well.

I bought a sari full length for this dress. it cost me only $ 25. it is bright, pretty, and not to cut a mirror image for a model of traditional skirt if you want to follow the line of the fabric.

I learned that the reason for a sari, or at least it is a one-way design complicating matters, the drawing is printed at an angle This is great when the sari is used in the traditional sense -.. the design and fabric fall straight when the sari is wrapped around the body. Not so when cutting to a garment.

I used the center line of the design of feathers as my guide. As I lined the top, then the design of the skirt should fall right, right? Everything was fine until I went up and down the design sari (blue and beige parts) kept creeping in and out of the skirt panels. There was too much or too little of the impression top and bottom. At the time 24, I realized I had to cut the pockets of the skirt against line to a degree angle 20 or so to keep the design - and my sanity -. Intact

My only recommendation must-do is to remove 1-2 "width from the skirt panel to clear the gathers at the waist before. The gathering the back was minimal and acceptable. I had to change the inner bodice dramatically because it is made to fit on a modern bra corset and not the Edwardian period correct I have done for this dress. the bodice was made by tacking folded sari cloth panel at the front of the bodice before adding sleeves. I used the model for both overskirts underskirt.

I did not want the zipper to show that I sewed off-center. in this way, the zipper is hidden from view, and I could add snaps to the edge. the center back was pinned up for the evening. no one was the wiser. Hey, what kind of costumes we love? Done!
