Costume Inspiration, design and Construction

  • 1873. Tamer. Chromolithographie. Library of Congress.
I originally started with a Victorian safari theme, but could not figure out how to use my red and yellow silk just shouted "Circus" with the soft colors of safari. I started googling (I guess this verb now), and came across this time frame. It was perfect!

  • The bodice is made using C See New Look in E6058. Three tissue - 100% white silk, fine shimmer poly mesh, and heavy curtain fabric "Mediterranean" - were laid to create a complex effect. Silk and nets were cut in one piece to the spray brush helps to hold them together. I smoothed the curtain fabric on the bodice and darts, and sewn fabric curtain down about 1/4 "away from the raw edge. Keys fabric glue here and there kept the curtain fabric to pull away from the bodice .
