Book Review: Sorolla and years Paris

Book Review: Sorolla and years Paris -
On July 14, the Museum of Impressionism in Giverny will open an exhibition entitled "Sorolla and years of Paris" which focuses on the rise of Joaquín Sorolla to fame and international success.

Valencian Fishermen, 1895 26 x 34. Collection Broere charitable Foundation
the exhibition includes nearly 100 paintings, most of the major landscapes, portraits and subjects range. Like his contemporaries Anders Zorn, John Singer Sargent, and Peder Krøyer, Joaquín Sorolla was remarkable to bridge the gap between academic and impressionist painting.

He lit images by creating outdoor studies drawn yet accurately and thoughtfully composed.

For many of us who can not make it to see the exhibition, there is an excellent catalog published by Skira / Rizzoli putting Sorolla's work in context. Sorolla and Paris Years is 248 pages, with essays by Blanca Pons-Sorolla, Maria López Fernández and others.

The cover shows a woman wrapped in white, holding a camera.

Sorolla, Self Portrait
Sorolla came to Paris at age 23, with a keen interest in the study of the work of Bastien Lepage and Adolph Menzel. It refers to Menzel as "the greatest painter in all respects," and even "the greatest painter in the world!" Sorolla insisted on sincerity and truth in his painting, and he said "the truth is Supreme for me, the only thing in art. "

The text focuses on the way Sorolla to fame and commercial success. It was a remarkable feat for a Spanish artist unknown to dominate the attention of collectors and museums in the capitals of art in Paris and New York.

Unfortunately there is not much discussion Sorolla working methods or exactly how he used photography. This is something I've always wondered, since many of its dynamic figurative subjects would have been almost impossible to paint entirely from on-site observation.

The book and the exhibition contains many famous large paintings by Sorolla. If you have other books on Sorolla, these images are repeated. The reproductions are excellent in this book, large, colorful and lively, with some big details plans. The book's dimensions are 9.8 x 1 x 11.3 inches.

what sets this book apart from others on Sorolla is a nice collection of her tiny outdoor studies, like the one above, where you can clearly consider how he used a warm color boot.
