Bama, born in New York in 1926, was a successful illustrator Cooper Studios and later became a freelance paperback book covers. With a large number contemporaries, he retired from the illustration and is dedicated to chronicling the face of the American West. But throughout he loved to visit China, Japan, Tibet, and Mexico. Exotic faces and costumes he met there worked their way through a series of 67 oil portraits he created for his own satisfaction, as the gallery market for these paintings was not necessarily a given .
