- Read 70 pounds
- Write a new manuscript
- Finish the current script revision
- Prioritize taking care of myself throughout the year
So far I'm making good progress. I read 36 books so far, wrote manuscripts and half completed the revision of the manuscript I was working on at the beginning of the year (or at least, completed the revision enough that I considered finished in January), and I set a weekly rest day for myself to make sure I do not forget the matter of self-care. So I started weight training with free weights for the first time this year and results (now visible) have made me very happy. So far, so good.
I decided to look more closely at the books I've read so far, however, because back in November last I made a big reading diversity analysis and wanted to see how I stack up now.
So the 36 books I've read so far, 21 have included some sort of marginalized representation, while 15 did not.
Among the various stories, including 3 representation of neuroatypical or mental illness, 14 had QUILTBAG characters, 9 were the main characters in marginal races / ethnicities, and only 3 had characters with physical disabilities.
Bright Side, I suppose, is that I read a grand total of more than one book with physical disabilities rep during the first six months of the year than I did all last year. I would like to read more books with characters POC for sure, so that's something I'm going to focus on the next six months, as well as research books with characters neuroatypical because apparently I was sorely lacking in this department this year.
Watching the authors I read books by 24 authors cis women, 9 men cis authors, and 2 non-binary trans Authors /.
And based on what I know / can find easily online, 17 books I have read so far were marginalized by authors and 19 were not.
So overall, I think I'm fine. I would continue to prioritize marginalized authors in my playlist every time I can. Looking at what's left of my TBR shelf property, much of what I have not written by marginalized authors, but there are some books I wanted to read all the same are, plus the library is one thing, and also I have some pre-orders coming in that will help you with that too.
As for my writing goals, I'm definitely aiming at both end the writing and editing of the manuscript, I am currently working on, the more I want to make a objective of the first draft of WIP I've plotted, but I'll have to do a soft target because some other projects may take precedence. Again! I define it as a bonus objective.
Overall, I met a lot of goals this year already and look forward to more progress. Yay. :)
What have you reading and writing objectives worked towards this year
